Learning to Live Life Loved...

Blogmas Day 6 ~ Audrey and Summer

Okay, so something most people know about me is that I am that Crazy Cat Lady. And guess what, I'm not even ashamed.

I have 3 cats, Navy, Alby and Audrey - Audrey being our youngest and the only girl. Being the only girl in our household (outnumbered by Rich, the step boy, Navy and Alby, who are all boys), I was very happy to have another girl in our family - even if she was a cat. When we found out we were having a girl, I was again, happy that again, the girls were growing in Casa Alsop-awan.

As much as I love all my cats, Audrey is somewhat amazing. I don't care what people say, cats really are clever creatures.

When I was pregnant with Summer and my bump started to show, little Audrey loved to sleep on and around my belly. She was always cuddly and affectionate generally, but she took a particular liking to my bump and whenever I was sat or laid on the sofa or in bed, she came and laid on me. I loved it. It felt like she knew and was bonding and protecting my baby.

After I lost Summer, when we got back from the hospital after, after 2 nights away from the cats, I laid down on the sofa crying. Audrey came in the room, looked at me and jumped onto the sofa and sat next to me. She looked at me, looked at my tummy (which was no longer a bump), looked back at me, then back at my stomach. She started to paw at it and after a few seconds, she started mewing, continuing to paw at my stomach. It was like she was crying. She knew.

After crying for a little bit, she climbed up onto my belly and curled up to fall asleep. It was the cutest thing but also broke my heart even more.

Even my cat grieved for my baby girl.

Since then, Audrey has been one of the best comforts to me and I couldn't be more grateful to have her. I know that Summer would have loved all three of my cats, had she lived, but her and little Audrey will have been very close. Cats really are amazing. 🌞💖
